Once your engine has cooled, Get some surran wrap...
use the degreaser at the car wash. Before you start, make sure the car wash has a water trap, as grease runoff is prohibited.

Wrap sensors and their electrical connectors, alternator, distributor, etc.....this way you don't create any shorts.

protect the alternator from soap and water spray ... use an old bath towel draped over the alternator to do this.... go the the 75cent car wash and open the hood and soap-up and rinse-down the engine this should get it clean and grease free.. let the engine dry completely dry and paint the engine and the hoses with a clear-heat-proof areosol spray can-paint that you can buy at the local auto supply store ---- and while you are there you should talk to the parts dude and make a ""store friend"" that can also help you with car questions and problems in the future... do not use brasso on the engine it will leave white residue that you won't like --- the clear spray will look good and dirt will rinse off easily.....
