I live in the US and am curious if it is getting more difficult as well in other countries to meet new people, (friends of the same and opposite sex) .

People seem to just live more and more of a sheltered life , work, watch tv at home, maybe go to a restaurant on the weekend . Their lives are closed really. And even they all drive individual cars so not even public transport to "chat someone up" !

of course their is work or class, but it is even getting more discouraging to meet people there!

Not too difficult in UK. We just go to a bub where they play darts and put our names on the board. Same for pool, cards, dominoes etc!

Where I live it's very easy, you can be sitting in the book shop, and someone will always come over and ask if they can sit and chat.
The problem can be, finding some where to be alone.

Anyway, it's nice and friendly, and people are very sweet.

I have heard this about the US, that people like to drive door to door, and don't natter away on the streets as we do in the UK...

Then we are a much smaller country, and more crowded.

You could say we have to rub shoulders with each other;-)

Depends how old you are but I always think if you want to get to know people these days you have to take part in something you have an interest in and then you'll meet the sort of people you want to get to know - so, for example, take art lessons or go to a church or a walking group or camera club... you get the picture?! I think there is a lack of trust these days for people to just stop and chat, mainly media fuelled because they portray everyone as dangerous or at least slightly odd. Thats my opinion for what its worth!

I agree, most people (I am guilty too) are more self-absorbed and keep to themselves, focusing on work, money and electronic entertainment.
That is how it is here, where I live. Plus I live in a tourist town so work is a big deal here from March to December.
The street I live on is mostly illegal Mexican immagrants, meth heads, and pedophiles.
If I ain't afraid of them...I can't understand a dang word they say ...and it's MY country !!!!

it's easy, the dive bars are full of friendly people, not a fern bar or a sports bar or a cocktail lounge, a dive bar ♥
