Many libraries do have booksales that are used as fundraisers. My library has a few shelves near the account desk that is filled with books people donate to be sold. The one where I grew up had an entire building devoted to their book sales!

You should contact your local branch to see if they have sales available.

As others have told you, many libraries sell their old and less circulated books annually. These sales are worth going to. I have seen hardcovers go for $1 and $2, while paper backs are around $.50. Our library has an annual sale at the fairgrounds and if you wait until the last day you can fill a shopping bag for $2. You may want to look into this. Good luck.

Yes, some libraries have semi-annual book and video sales. Also, there are libraries which have actual bookstores in a little room within the library setting. There's one near me where they sell all hardcovers for $1.25 and some of these are actually new ones - that people have donated. The paperbacks are usually 75 cents.

Libraries periodically weed their collections and sell books that are no longer relevant or popular. Typically, they have to have multiple copies of a book or the book hasn't been checked out for ten years. Books in poor condition are also pulled.

Find out from your library when their book sale is. They know the date at least three months in advance.

Now if it's a particular book you are interested in, particularly if you have checked it out, it's not likely they'll sell it to you unless you offer a really good price. If you are the only one who has checked it out in ten years or more, they might be tempted but I would offer them at least $20.00 in this situation.

It might be easier for you to find the same book on Ebay or Amazon.
