Spirituality for me is being able gain awareness about your inner self and God, understand who you are as a person, what are your strengths, weaknesses, and how you can continue to be a better person. Religion is a set of beliefs and rituals.
So I think spirituality is a bigger concept than religion. You can achieve it from religion, but I know some people who don't follow any particular religion, but are still quite spiritual....they are quite humble and honest about who they are, they try to live responsibly and be good to others. Ultimately, that's what a happy life is about.

I think religion is but one of many ways of becoming a spiritually oriented person. Being raised Catholic, a priest one day told our class that we should explore various belief systems in order to truly know in our hearts that we were Catholic. That added fuel to the inner fire and the quest to find spirit through all religions and throughout all life began. I studied the holy books from numerous faiths, the writings of theosophists, the new age teachings, the beliefs from the east and west, paganism, indigenous beliefs, etc. The more I study the more I find God exists in everything and the more I find all belief systems have very many similarities.
Someone once said the religious person goes to church and thinks about fishing while the spiritual person fishes and thinks about God. I think this says a lot. For most spiritual people every moment is filled with grace and beauty. For many religious people there is strife and criticism and separatism (one church always believes they are better than another).
So im my opinion spirituality can be attained from religion but also in appreciation of nature, human nature, the sky or about anything that stirs one to peer deeper into the mystery of creation and purpose.

I am wondering about this a lot too and, at the moment, I would say that following a specific religion does not seem to help spirituality a lot, instead reading religious books (from any religion really) and try to interpret them helps more. I might change my mind though, but I think spiritual life is something you live by yourself, without company.

spirituality and religion are near polar opposites. spirituality is having a close personal relationship with God, religion is a limitation that people try to put on God.

without works your spirituality is dead and it is in religion that one finds the works needed to express his/ her spiritual self .even if you don't go to church you are practicing religion when you live out your spiritual life

You cannot believe in God and not believe in God at the same time.
Religionists believe in God, they must have faith in God and practice some religion, while in spirituality it is not required to believe in God, but to know God, and it is not a religion, nor it is required to practice any.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg, but this changes everything. Big difference!0!
