I'm looking at the possibility of providing short term rental baby furniture to parents that stay in hotels that do not wish to bring the stroller or playpen with them. Does this sound like something you would look into?

i think this is a great idea. hotel cribs are usually gross if they have any at all, and it's a huge pain to pack a playpen. It would also be great to rent strollers and carseats at the airport along with the rent-a-cars. Once the baby gets a little older and it's too heavy to carry them around in the carseat, or they don't have an infant seat anymore, those big carseats are horrible to lug around, especially if you're traveling alone with a baby. All that stuff is a logistical nightmare, it would be great to be able to rent it at your destination.

While I don't remember all of the "why nots", I recall being told to NOT allow a child to sleep in a car seat. It might be because the danger is too great of the carseat falling over when not attatched to a car, it might be that there is something "bad" about car seats that sleeping during a car ride is ok, but too much of a danger if allow to sleep in them all the time. If you have two beds or a king size bed, one solution is co-sleeping. The baby either shares the bed (king size) or sleeps with only one parent in one of two beds. Of course co-sleeping has it's dangers as well. There are documented cases of parents co-sleeping, and sleeping so soundly that they've rolled over and suffucated their infant without realizing it. But that should be a danger that decreases as the child gets physically larger. I would avoid the idea of a laundry basket, just because of the unknown hidden dangers. Modern cribs and pack-n-plays have been designed to specifically keep your child safe. The industry has years of experience (and a few lawsuits) that have forced them to make thier cribs safe. As others have suggested, when staying in a hotel, you might be able to use a pack-n-play provided by the hotel. However, if any of the places you are staying charges a fee, that woud quickly cut into the money you are trying to save.

Yes, I would have when my daughter was a baby. Some of the stuff that hotels provide for babies is just nasty and unsafe looking, and they often don't keep up with product recalls. Plus I hated having to travel with the stroller, it would have to be folded and stored, then I'd have to wait for them to go get it once we landed. It sounds like a good idea, go for it!!! Just keep the stuff clean and in good repair, and keep on the alert for product recalls.

Over there in the states this things are very chaep. So most of the time parents carrya round their stuff or the buy a cheap one just while they are over.So yes you could rent but it will not be a business that will give a lot of money. You know what could be better a babysitting service for couples that want some time by themselves ina hotel.I mean provide the service in the hotel.Try to make a market study to see if ir profitable.

Depends on how convenient the service is. If it's provided through the hotel, probably. Even a little extra work and I'd probably just bring my own.
I think your marketing to the hotels would be crucial.

Totally!
I just came back from Brasil with my 3 week old son. It would have been a lot easier if I didnt have to buy a cheap stroller for him at Rio De Janeiro...LOL

that is a excellent idea!
get some flyers made up and ask hotels and such to have them in the rooms
just make sure that the items are really clean

yeah definitley! renting a stroller would be cool since it's kinda hard to take it along when flying.
