It really depends most on what type of garage door opener you have. Try first by taking your remote for the garage door and going into your car hold both buttons till the little light flashes first, then it should work. If it doesn't then you have to go up to your garage door opener and find the program button (which is usually on the back right and is right under a little red led light) press it (it will start to blink) and within 30 seconds go to your car and press the button 3-5 times till it works.

I have one for my 1999 mitsubishi eclipse. It's probably the same one. My instructions was in my manual. You have to press two of the buttons till it blinks or something and then you use your garage door opener and click to your garage door opener in the car. I wish I could remember. If you have a manual it will be in there.
