Information I have read says to find the exit holes, wait until they go out at night, and plug up the holes so they can't get back in.
Here's an interesting website:

First off make sure they are bats, many people want to believe they have bats or squirrels in their attic/walls because they are cutter than the alternative rats and mice. If it is a bat problem, figure out how they are getting inside, bats to not gnaw at wood and tiles to get in they are using a gap that was already present (water damage, rodent chewed trough etc.) If you can't see where they are getting in and out go outside at dusk and wait for them to start coming out so you can see their access point. When you do find the entrance, purchase / rent a one way door (Internet or wildlife service in your area) and install it, if there are multiple entrances either put many doors or plug all but one. The bats will go out but can't go back, wait a few days and go check that there aren't any bats left inside if it's all clear repair the hole and problem solved. However I have to mention that this should not be done during bat breeding season as the babies would be stuck inside and die. If you don't like to do this kind of stuff look for a humane wildlife removal service, ask questions, lots of them; as some "humane" removal services will "humanely euthanize" your problem, if they want to put one way doors you're on the right track. To keep the bats in your area try placing a bat house / condo (condo is good for the whole colony !). Hope this helps

Have you seen those pest control devices that use super-sonics to keep critters away? Since bats rely so heavily on their acute hearing I would look into getting one of these devices to keep them away while the repairs are made on the siding (shoring up whatever gaps they're using to get in). I agree with the suggestion to invest in some bat boxes because they are so good at controlling the flying insect population.

Get or make (plans on the internet) a simple bat box for them to hang in instead. Bats kill lots of insects. they're good to have around.

Contact your local animal control officer.
Even though bats are good to kill bugs and such. When they nest inside a house they can destory the walls, wires and much more.
Just becareful if you decided to handle it on your own. Sealing a hole when there are still bats inside is not good. They will start to crew away at the walls and will be inside your home in no time.

Ever see the old movie called; Love at first bite?
Watch it... and your problem will become rather funny and may even give you some ideas?
"It's a black chicken!"
Or... You could always catch them and sell them to an immigrant Thai family and save them the trouble of catching their own dinner?
