4 because that is the biggest number you can divide all three of those by.
You can divide 12 by 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12. You can divide 16 by 1, 2, 4, 6, and 16. You can divide 24 by 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24. The largest number all three of these have in common is 4 so the GCF is 4.

el chipo… have you been giving everyone a thumbs down? Everyone except you seems to have one thumbs down. Oh wait! Now you have one too.

12 16 24 I 2 * HALF (this row got all half's)
6 8 12 I 2 * HALF (this one as well)
3 4 6 I 2 HALF (no this one)
3 2 3 I 2 HALF (no this one)
3 1 3 I 3 THIRD (no this one)
1 1

now you multipliy the * ones ......2(2)= 4
in stead the * you do a CHECK!!
in this method you use HALFS, THIRDS AND SO ON!!

OR THE QUICKIEST METHOD ONLY FOR MATH PEOPLE!! (SORRY IF YOU ARE NOT)
being good in the TIMES TABLES you look the numbers (12,16,24) belong to the family of 4, just make sure 4 is the GREATEST divisible by everyone at the SAME TIME!!

because you want the GREATEST common factor (G.C.F.)!!

Factors:
12: 2, 2, 3
16: 2, 2, 2, 2
24: 2, 2, 2,3

The most they have in common are the two 2s.
GCF = 2*2 = 4

12 = 2x2x3

16 = 2x2x2x2

24 = 2x2x2x3

GCF = 2x2 = 4

List the numbers that go into each

1,2,3,4,6,12
1,2,4,8,16
1,2,3,4,6,8,12,24

Now what is the largest that all have? It is 4

Another way, factor into primes

12=2x2x3
16=2x2x2x2
24=2x2x2x3

They each have two 2s, so 2x2 is 4
