An acid is any solution that has a pH of less than 7.0 when it is disolved in water (Arenius definition). Also, an acid can be defined as a proton donor (Bronsted/Lowry). Acids have a sour taste, usually sting when touched, and turn blue litmus paper red. They react with bases in a neutralization reaction (water and a salt) and usuallt react with most metals.
