Safe mode is a choice you make at startup. Shut down the computer and then restart it. Press F8 for mode selection. Then use up/down arrows to move cursor down to "safe mode" and then press ENTER key.

It's not actually a key, it's Windows loading up with a minimal set of devices (drives, printers, anything you have attached to it) because something caused a problem. This way a tech can fix the problem without the possibility of the computer crashing again while the problem is being taken care of.
If you're looking to get out of safe mode, it's likely that restarting the computer will do it. Keep an eye on it while it's booting up and you may see a screen that will allow you to select starting the computer in 'normal mode' or 'safe mode' and give you about ten seconds to make the selection before it just does whatever is highlighted. Be aware though, if after you restart in normal mode your computer crashes and restarts itself in safe mode again, you might have a problem. That would be the time to call your friendly neighborhood computer geek.
