I got a rebate when I moved out of a flat that I was renting. Give the licencing authority a call and they will sort you out. The number will be on your licence; just tell them that you are moving. You will need to get rid of any tvs or radios that you have in the house, though! You can listen to radio on the web and may even find some sites that stream British tv also.

I have a similar problem. Since the digital channels transmission, I cannot receive analogue signals, so I disconnected by TV and this OK in Court. If you receive a poor signal for any channel, you still need a TV Licence unless you can show (in Court) that the signal was so appalling that it could not be construed as receiving a deliberate reception.

I think you would be wasting a nice day out if you took that to court. Channels 4 and 5 are commercial channels and are not supported by the licence fee.

Some people got this right some got it wrong.
The licence is for having apparatus CAPABLE of receiving transmissions of television pictures. No mention is made of ITV BBC or any other method of reception. It is, therefore not just for terrestrial TV but ALL TV.
I used to operate a detector van comb.

The licence fee is to pay for the BBC only, (terrestrial) - so it covers none of your problem areas. so if you went to court, you'd be a laughing stock, and the money you spent on costs would buy you a nice 40" plasma......with an aerial that works

No you can't because all the TV license money goes to the BBC anyway. Other channels make their money through adverts!! If you cannot get a reception then you need to invest in a stronger aerial i'm afraid!!

No way you lose . Try to buy a top box . As for the T.V. licence it is about time this was scraped but untill this happens you have to pay.

Even if you could only get one channel, no matter what the reception, you'd still have to pay the licence fee!

You should try it, doubt if you'll get very far. You should do what we do, live in a property that is marked as 'agricultural' instead of private so that they don't know you are living there, then you don't have to pay for what you don't get!
