Who are the illustrated characters on the back of the "Little Golden Books"?

they are (clockwise)an elephant, a puppy, a rabbit, a kitten, a duck and chicken, a train, a lion and mouse, and a tugboat.

They are (clockwise) an elephant, a puppy, a rabbit, a kitten, a duck and chicken, a train, a lion and mouse, and a tugboat. What are their names? I'm guessing they are characters from early books. I think the puppy is "The Pokey Little Puppy." Does anybody have any idea who the other characters are? Thanks!

Not sure what cover you are looking at, but this has interesting info on several covers. Here is my 'guess' as to the characters you mention

Elephant--Saggy, baggy Elephant
Kitten--Shy Little Kitten
Pup--Poky Little Puppy [one of my fav books as a child!]
Lion--Tawny, Scrawny Lion
Train--Tootle the Train
Tugboat--Scuffy

Sorry I am not sure about the others!

The elephant is a Saggy Baggy Elephant. The Kitten I believe is the Shy Little Kitten. Lion is the Tawny Scrawny Lion. The tugobat is Scuffy. The train is Tootles. The duck is The Duck. The Puppy is Poky Little Puppy. The chicken is the Little Red Hen. The rabbit I'm still not certain of...is it yawning??? And the mouse is still not coming to me...
