wash it in cold water and use regular detergent but make sure you put a good fabric softerner in the rinse cycle. Then you need to hang the comforter up to dry do not put it in the dryar as that will most likely shrink it. Hot water is what does shrinking in most cases and heat from a dryar. My cat has peed on my blankets many times (she is old) and I have tried many things to get the smell out and have found Snuggle liquid fabric softner to work the best. If the cover is light colored you may want to pretreat the spot with a bit of stain remover like shout or spray and wash. If you have a way to hang it outside to dry that is best but if you live in an urban area you can just hang it over a door just be sure to turn it as it may take 2 days to dry completly and turning will prevent any stale spots.

Wash in warm water with detergent and about 2 cups of vinegar, also add vinegar to the final rinse. Do not put it in the dryer if you are afraid it may shrink. Hang it somewhere to dry.

Get a natural enzyme solution that removes animal odors at any pet store, and wash as directed on the package. There are no "home" remedies that work unless you can't smell well (visitors will notice).
