Discribe what blue and red look like. Then you can say that purple is a combination of the two.

I'm assuming this person has never, or does not remember sight, so remember that comparisons to other colors (IE, purple is blue w/ red added) is worthless. Instead, try explaining the colors using feelings of touch, taste, smell, or sound. This sounds silly to us, but I think that you'll find that by saying blue is "softer," "calmer," or "warmer" than purple you'll be able to better communicate the idea. Also, realize that we're able to discern subtle differences in color while a blind person obviously cannot, so don't be afraid to use the context in which the question comes up to help you explain. Their understanding of the color cannot incorporate the surroundings of the color or image it is part of. B/c of this, you must use the context to help explain the "idea of color." Hope that helps.

Purple should really be called violet. It comes between blue and red on the colour wheel. Try and describe it as being a mixture of both the coolest and hottest colours, and calm like a well-balanced person.

The difference between blue & purple is red. So purple is a little warmer. Ice cube vs room temperature.

Blue is a cooler color than purple. Like the difference between being in sun, and being in shadow on a cool day.

The difference between blue and purple I would say is blue is a cool color, almost reminds me of winter, and purple is more of a warmer color and it reminds me of a horizon, or night.

purple is blue with red in it....you cannot explain anything to anyone in terms that are outside of their scope of experience, and expect them to understand. A person who is blind from birth has no point of reference when discussing colors.
