Like many M.E.'s (and judges) he's obviously a publicity-hound---it's a weird profession, especially in Miami! (ditto the ME concerned with Marilyn Monroe's death, and many others).
The poor woman probably died of Lupus complications. Unfortunately, celebrities, and their numerous hangers-on, are so simple-minded/and or/self-destructive, they won't check themselves into a hospital like normal people might.
They all seem to be (Anna, and her lovers) in a "fog" of crisis all the time, so a real health crisis gets ignored.

What is an M.E.? No idea. Well someone gave Anna and Daniel drugs and it's not hard to figure out who was their pimp; it's called "accessory to murder".
