hi there.

i have repaired man, many Plymouth acclaims for the very same reason. Here is what's going on.

The speedometer in that car is driven using a ELECTRIC SPEED SENSOR. this sensor is hooked to the transmission. It is obviously not at fault as your speedometer still works.

Inside the speedometer is a little circuit board that drives the Speedometer and Odometer. There is a couple little soft plastic gears that may have broken. They motor that drives the gears may have gone bad. One or more components on the circuit board may be bad.

You can have the speedometer repaired or replaced. Any junkyard would sell one for $10 to $50. (I would repair it for $80.)

I hope this helps Good Luck!

there are some gears in the transmission that drive all of the speedometer .. it is possible to service this with fine grease (like vasoline) pull the cable out and oil-up this may fix-it or perhaps the cable needs to be re-placed --- go slow and don't force the parts out.........the cable may come out of the top or at the tranny ---not sure ---but this will most likely fix yo ride... there is no fuse -- it is all mechanical -- cable to speedometer.....
