That's a normal reaction when you first turn on the lights. Give them a little time to adjust and they should start swimming around.

Ok what type of fish are they? That could be the main question here.
Most fish, if not given enough cover will go into hiding, you need to make sure you have some live plants in there, so the fish feel more secure because they hide through insecurity.
If you have catfish species, they will hide at night because its in their nature to come out at dusk/night time.
If you have small fish, say neon tetras, rummynose tetras, and you only have one or 2 then their shoaling instinct is being tampered with. If this is the case you'd need to get up to 5 of each shoaling fish so that if they feel threatened then they will be able to shoal to feel safe.
Also if the fish are new to the tank they should have around 1-2weeks to settle in and get used to their environment.
Hope this helps :D

you may attempt to stick to a organic cycle as much as obtainable. this suggests not having the easy on 24/7. Fish have not any eyelids and prefer the dark time to get a wreck from the easy. additionally, in case you will upload stay flora they prefer down time as properly. terrific guess could be to place your easy on a timer w/ 12 hours easy and 12 hours dark. Granted the solar does not shine for precisely 12 hours each and on a daily basis yet a 50/50 chop up is nice sufficient. in case you prefer to be waiting to savour your tank at nighttime or in case you will need some nocturnal creatures as properly as day fans, get a lowlight LED that simulates moonlight to go away on at nighttime. the easy isn't bright sufficient to problem the fish or flora yet is sufficient so which you will savour the tank whilst the main properly known easy is going off. you would be able to desire to place the LED on it somewhat is own timer or you would be able to desire to basically go away it on each and all the time.

This is simple; your fish might not like the light, or they fear it. Just to be safe, if you want to see your fish, keep them in the natural light caused by the sun (put them by a window) or keep the fish light on until the fish realize the light won't harm them. Good-luck.

The light is bright. They don't have eyelids. If you were in a dark room and I flipped on the lights suddenly, you'd close your eyes or put your hand over them. They can't. Allow them to get used to room lights on fore a few minutes first.

it is a protective instinct for the fish as they think something is going to get them when they see light.
