I can't fully extend my right arm since getting a blood test performed by an insurance company nurse. It's been a week and if I forget and raise my arm I get a burning pulling sensation. Will this feeling ever go away? It is hindering my normal everday lifestyle. Pain starts in the area of the needle puncture and shoots down my arm when I outstretch my arm when reaching for something. I now have to baby this arm. I am wondering if some permanent damage was done.

Your nurse hit a nerve. it will go away.

what did the nurse do? stab your muscle when he/she missed the vein? Is the area of injection swollen, red or warm to the touch? I'd call your insurance company and tell them to schedule an appointment with a doctor at their expense. You should not have pain like you describe for a blood specimen.

It could be that she damaged a nerve around the area of the vein, but if there is any swelling around the injection site, you should have it checked out. Often when intra-muscular injections are given, they hurt because the muscle is damaged, so it is hard to lift your arm without pain, and so on, keep an eye on the site, that is your best indicator of problems. E.g., bruising, swelling, discharge?

A blood clot might have formed and could be causing you pain. Or some nerve might have been hit by the needle tip. Check with a doctor.

Most likely a clot. This will dissolve on its own, although you can help it by putting hot packs on it and taking 1 aspirin a day for a few weeks (providing you have no sensitivities to aspirin).
