You need to look for higher ground clearance. That is normally available only in SUVs, which are a bit short on fuel efficiency. SO decide which aspect is of more value to you - fuel economy, better road grip, comfortable ride, or handling of rough road, or even frequent stop-and-go situations. There will be a different answer to each objective. Nothing like one consensus answer.

Indian roads are not that bad nowadays. All Suzuki vehicles are good in my opinion, in terms of price, economy, service, availability of spares, etc.

IT DEPENDS HOW MANY PERSONS TRAVEL IN IT.
IF IT IS A SMALL FAMILY OF FOUR, MARUTHI WAGON-R IS SUITABLE. (MOSTLY WITHIN CITY COMMUTATION).
IF YOU WANT TO REDUCE THE COST OF USAGE GO FOR MARUTHI WAGON-R (DUEL FUEL- PETROL/LPG).
FOR A DIESEL - AMBASSADOR IS A PROVEN BEST VEHICLE FOR INDIAN ROADS.
IF YOU CAN AFFORD MORE MONEY GO FOR HONDA CITY/ANY MODEL.
