vinyl dye,seems like the way to go. To those with more experience with the stuff than I, I think a couple clear coats would help protect it?

No, the mouse pad is very sensitive and if you paint it you will not get a response from it.

Actually the "paint fade" is a deliberate manufacturer design feature. It is intended to let you know your laptop is getting old and needs to be replaced.

no , because it will take away the touch sensitive pad , the paint will cover up the sensor.

I wouldn't think so, because the pain may peel off and if it does then you will have a bigger problem. It would be best if you bought a new one.
