I am wondering about the UK. here in US where I live, it is very difficult to find social life outside of college or university. I remember when I went to britain the people seemed more accepting of going to the "local pub" where as here in the US most of the places like that we call bars or clubs are full of the worst kind of people many times. Players, drug users, people looking to fight someone, just regular jerks and the women form of this as well.
I was curious , how is the pub club scene now in the UK ?
How has it changed or has it?
What kind of people do you find there?

We never go to pubs, clubs or bars in our town centre, full of people looking for a fight, idiots, druggies and people falling about all over the place drunk as skunks, the young girls don't seem to care let alone worry about what state they get into or how they might get home, its worrying and scary, if we want to go to a pub or restaurant we go to the outskirts of the town were the pubs are better and safer, thing is our town has always been like this of a weekend but when I was a lot younger I never noticed it much because I wanted to be part of the scene myself, guess the older you get the more you notice.

A real pub is very much an institution of the UK/Eire. Copies of them exist all over the world, but they are copies of real pubs. The real pub is being destroyed by Mr Tony Blair and his fellow university bar/chic restaurant types, who because they like wine bars, they think that everybody else should.

For those of you from abroad who have not lived with this, a pub should have a landlord of character, a dartboard, the smell of stale beer, air filled with cigarette smoke, well kept beer, no food apart from crisps and nuts, good conversation, lots of polished wood and clean shiny glasses. In addition to this there should be one bar that is for exclusive use of men. (I don't mean a bar for homosexuals)

A pub should not have a television, a coffee machine, an extensive food menu, scratch cards, or karaoke.

The demise of the English pub I lay at the door of number 10 Downing Street, which I think that every pub lover in the country will agree with me should be occupied by non other than Kenneth Clarke MP, who I am confident would not have allowed the licensing trade in the UK to sink to it's present level of despond.

I never go to any pubs and bars and clubs. There's not a particular reason for it, I'm just not that kind of person. First of all, I don't drink alcohol at all. Also, I'm a bit of a loner and don't socialize much and the people I would be interested in couldn't be found in such places. I'm just boring, I'd rather stay at home and read a book or study something. This country has too many problems because of alcohol.

i often go to my local pub, lunchtimes are really busy with the workers and in the evening people often go out with groups of friends, many pubs have later liscenses now, so turn into more of a diso later on with dj's/live music. I work in a nightclub at weekends and have found its the same people turning up every week, and although there has been trouble generally its a good atmosphere and a wide range of ages too, which is good in my opinion.

I go to pubs and clubs alot and am not a drug user/player or fighter!!!

The local pub is somewhere I go with my friends to have a drink and relax, and I go to clubs to get dressed up with the girlies and dance.

I think that you might be going to bars and clubs in the wrong part of town... there are places that I wouldn't set foot in but others that are full of happy secure functional people who like to go out with their friends and enjoy themselves.

I used to be really self concious and I hated going to clubs because I never wanted to dance in front of people and I didnt see the point in paying loads of money to get in and stand around shouting whenever I wanted a conversation with anyone. I made friends with a new group of people from college who really helped me come out of myself and now I love going out on a Friday and Saturday night, crawling home when the sun starts coming up!
