I know that everyone is different. I would like to get some ideas on ppl experiece that have been on or are currently taking Metformin to help with ovulating. I just started taking it today. I would like to see how long it took some to ovulate/get pregnant. Or if it just didnt work out and you had to be placed on Clomid.
Thanks

I ovulated the first month on metformin. One good friend got pregnant the first cycle she was on metformin and has a daughter who is almost two, and another took a few months to get pregnant, but has a wonderful five year old child. It may take time to establish normal and healthy cycles even on metformin, but even if it didn't give me manageble menstrual cycles, I just feel so much better on it that I'd stick with it. Check out soulcysters.com for lots of great personal stories and support for women with PCOS who are trying to concieve.

I haven't used Met, but have PCOS and wld consider it as a first round of prescription drug treatment. I'm trying naturally remedies right now. Met isn't classified as a fertility drug, but in women with PCOS whether they are overweight or not it appears to regulate hormones, which alloes fo ovulation. If ovulation does not occur on Met alone then the doc might add a fertility drug like clomid or femara, which has a higher success rate when used with Met. I would post this question on soulcysters.com. You'll get better and more knowledgeable responses. Met is actually becoming the first line of treatment in ALL pcos women regardless of weight or insulin resistance, if you go to a doctor that is keeping up on PCOS research. Anyway, if you don't see results in 3 months then you may need add fertility drugs.

Metformin is not a fertility drug. It is a drug normally prescribed to diabetics to help control bloodsugar. It has recently been suggested that maintaining stable blood sugar may help produce more recognizable and predictable ovulation, especially in overweight patients. Metformin alone will not get you pregnant. Depending on your personal struggle with infertility and obesity, I would suggest using Metformin in conjuction with another fertility medication.
