What do you mean by 'charging cable'?

Do you mean the cable that goes from the charger to the wall? In which case 'yes'.

Do you mean the charger (the black plastic block) that has a wire that plugs into your laptop? The answer is 'read the rating plate on the charger' and 'measure the connector'. If the charger is not the *same* voltage and at least the same current rating you will either burn out the charger or the laptop. What you are looking for is the OUTPUT capabilities. If the connectors are different sizes they won't fit.

The chances are? That you won't be able to use it without risking destroying your new laptop.

You have to make sure it has the same amount of Watts by looking at the end of the cable. Make sure the numbers are exactly the same. If they are, then you can use your old Dell laptop charger on your Gateway laptop.
