Getting laser hair removal for my back and was told to shave the day before. How short should I shave?

Completely smooth like my face or 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch?

I forgot to ask and can't ask again until day of removal!

i have also had my face done. They never really asked me to do anything about that, i usually just take my electric norelco shaver, give it a quick once over and be done. You don't have to be perfectly smooth. I have also had my stomach done, and if I forget to trim, the doctor does it for me. don't stress. You may want to call the place you are going and just ask the person there.

i would say like 1/8 to 1/4 inch would be just fine.

I've done laser on my face.

If you shave fully (smooth) on the day before, you're obviously not going to have much hair the next day, unless of course you're exceptionally hairy. So, instead if trying to shave off only fractions on the day before, why don't you just shave everything too a smooth finish at least 3 or 4 days before?

Your doctor would have told you that it's necessary for him to be able to see your hair for the laser beam to pick up the melanin in it. And, if the hair is too long, the laser will be absorbed by the hair but it won't reach its root. Hence, it's not about when you shave or how much you shave, instead it's all about how much hair is visible enough when you're going for the next treatment.
