If its crunching when you try first or reverse, it may not be the clutch.......Each gear or cog has a little fine ring of teeth to guide the other cog over it......Its call a syncro.....If you are a lazy driver and don't push the clutch pedal all the way down...It clips this guiding syncro ring and ruins it........Hence making it harder to engage the gear........On the other hand It could simply be the clutch......Go to a mechanic first and ask him if he can adjust the clutch for you.....If he cant...then he should be able to tell you exactly what it is.....Good Luck

Sounds like you are not disengaging the clutch.

Have you got a clutch cable(when you press the pedal how is the lever in the transmission moved) there would then be an adjusting nut.

start the vehicle in first gear with clutch depresed. does the vehicle move without engaging the clutch? with the handbrake off? if so it's either excess free play or clutch is u/s. it's not advisable to drive in this state as irrepairable damage will be caused to the g/box very quickly.

It's the clutch, it's worn. best way to check it is to put it into 3rd or 4th gear and try to drive off. If the clutch slips, it's worn.
