You have to understand that the Constitution was written by very young people, compared today. Most were in their 30s. Yet they wrote the most famous work ever written. They not only put together a document that was written greatly, yet had the fore thought to put in ways to allow the Constitution to be changed with the times, because they knew they could not think of everything.

That's a challenge. I don't know as much about the Constitution as I should, and unfortunately, I think that's true for most of us. I'm reading the Federalist Papers right now (although in fits and starts), and it helps a lot to explain the reasoning behind the Constitution. My favorite part (besides the Preamble, which is only my favorite because I grew up singing it), isn't so much a section of it as it is the IDEA of it. The way it was constructed. The deliberate decision to make it open to change and interpretation. The authors recognized that the world they knew was going to change, and to have a strong government, our Constitution had to be able to change with it. But to last into the future, it also had to be difficult to destroy. That's quite a feat - create something that can be changed, but cannot be destroyed.

The Bill of Rights. It's a shame that nine of the first ten Amendments have been canceled.

The Bill of Rights is written in straightforward and simple language. I just don't understand why so many judges and legislators have difficulty understanding it.

That is now one of the greatest literary fictions ever written. The fact that is went from true to false in such a short time is not only amazing but shows what the republicans can achieve when they put their minds to something.

The Second Amendment. It's what guarantees the rest will live on when the government tries to take any of the others away from us.
