...but words can never hurt me? What idiot came up with this one? That is totally not true. Words can make us hurt ourselves and even prompt suicide. And if your in politics, it doesn't even need to be someone else words. Your own words can be just as, if not more, destructive then anyone elses. Also look at the War of the Worlds radio incident, that was all words. And y2k would have essentially been caused by words or worse a lack of words since that is all a program is. There is even the literal intrepetation of this saying. Have you ever held a dictionary? Some of those things are heavy. You could definately hurt a guy with a dictionary

You brought up some very valid points and I agree with you that words can be just as if not more harmful to us and others. Words can hurt you deeply and once they're said, it's hard to take them back. I have seen what being verbally abused can do to a person. My wife had been in a previous relationship that left her self esteem and ego definitely hurt. It took her a lot of time and effort to get past this. So, words can break a heart or a spirit which sometimes takes much longer to heal than a physical trauma.

Many of those little adages that parents and teachers tell children are exposed to be BS in the real world. Along with "sticks and stones..." other feel good, BS adages include:

No child is smarter/better than any other
You can be anything you want if you believe in yourself
If you pray to God, he will help you with your troubles
Turn the other cheek
All you have to do is be yourself and people will like you
Bullies can be disarms through rational discussion
Money doesn't change who you are as a person

And so on and so forth. Most of those things are just made to make children feel good, but they're not true.

I completely agree..i have never used that phrase bacause i know very well that the words of others could very much hurt me..even sometimes more than sticks and stones.. though there are people out there who claim that wut other people say dont effect them but to me, there words of hatred do hurt u by making u less intune with ur feelings...by denying the hurt that is lying underneath that layer of pride...thus leaving u emotionless.....but thats just my opinion...
