Monster Hunter: Freedom PSP, HELP!?

2 things.

1.) I was wondering how to get people in the online hall, is there nobody in the world online or something?

2.) And next I was wondering which weapon path I should take I made it to chief level 2 and I am having troble with the liver delivery and killing the dragon. But I have have been switching weapons alot... if you have played this game and got far please tell me how you got there and what weapon/ weapons you used.
