i try to abide by this:
1 time per week - wash with designated auto shampoo(no dish soap!!), use a soft sponge, don't let dirt get on it, if u drop ur sponge on the ground, get another one. wash and rinse one section of the car at a time, don't let soap dry. Dry the car with a soft terry cloth or microfiber.

Clay Bar- 3-4 times a year, this gets embedded contaminants out of ur paint.

if u have scratches or paint oxidation, there's a crapload of products ur gonna want to utilize. Scratch-X from meguiars works well(paint polish)

for the inside-shake and vacuum out floor matts, vacuum the rest of the upholstery, use stain remover for carpet stains, use soap and water for the plastic/vinyl parts in ur car. if u use that armor-all protectant, it will produce bad glare but use if u please.

Always wash your car from top to bottom, if you wash randomly you will carry the gritty residue all over and scratch, corrode the paint. If you go top to bottom, you will keep the most visible surfaces cleaner longer, this will keep your car looking its best.

I like using Meguiar's softwash gel, I also use the soft washmit. Once rinsed, I will use cotton towels to dry the car top to bottom once more....

If the car is loosing its luster, I will get some Meguiar's #7 show car glaze and work the paint with a new unused cotton diaper.

When the car is hazed over, let it sit and dry...in the meantime, dress the tires with No touch, take this time to clean the wheels from the brake dust using a cloth. If the stains are stubborn use aluminum polish. Even powdercoated wheels will clean up with thos mother's polish. If pourous, only steam cleaning will do it.

Wipe the tires clean from exces notouch or it will get whipped all over your clean shiny paint.

Once done, go back and use a clean baby cloth diaper (unsoiled of course) and polish to a high gloss shine. If winter is approaching, take this time to wax it for protection.

Get some windex and clean the glass inside and out.

Remove the dirty floor mats from the interior and vacuum everything until all debris is gone. Hang the dirty floor mats on the car wash mat clamps....use engine degreaser on the wash dispenser option....and shoot degreaser on these ugly mats....once thoroughly soaked, switch back to high pressure rinse and hit these mats top to bottom....they should look like new when done....let drip-sun dry.

Take meguiar's vinyl and rubber conditioner and clean all plastic surfaces....wipe excessive film off, it will attract dirt and look too oily...the cleaned surface will look and smell new.

If leather seats, take Lexol cleaner, clean the seats....if you have some scratching or blemishes, use a fine scotchbrite pad and cleaner and scrub gently until the scratches are gone. Wiipe the leather down with a soft water dampened towel, let sun dry....

Go back with Lexol conditioner and apply to entire leather surface and let dry.

Once done, take it in and have the oil changed if needed and tire air pressures checked.

You should be good to go.

I always wash my cars thouroghly right before I paint them. Other than that, they get a bath when it rains. I didn't used to be that way, but now I don't really care!
