3x-1/2y=10
5x+1/4y=8 Double this one and add it to the first equation to get rid of the y.

3x-1/2y=10
10x + 1/2y = 16
13x = 26
x = 2

Put the 2 in either of the original equations to find y.
3x - 1/2y = 10
6 - 1/2 y = 10
-1/2 y = 4 Multiply by -2.
y = -8
