Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I want to go away this summer, for a week in early June. We've been looking at Albufeira, but some people have told us it's too much like Benidorm and really tacky, whereas others loved it, so we're a bit confused!

Just to give you an idea of what we want:
1. Hot weather (around 27 degrees C maybe)
2. Good beaches
3. Good nightlife and restaurants
4. At least SOME opportunity to see the sights of a more authentic Portugal, away from the resort
5. Activities and day trips, like zoo, tours, theme park, etc
6. Busy but not absolutely rammed
7. Not full of 'rowdy, bald-headed, beer-bellied, trouble-making
English tourists' (that's my boyfriend's input....)

So we just wondered if anyone has been there and if it sounds like a) the right destination for us and b) if we're going at the right time of year (in terms of weather and how busy it is)

Thanks so much! :-) xx Emmie

Went to Sao Jao a few years ago. All the bars etc are based along "The Strip" which is about 1 mile long. Alberfeira is walkable fom there and it was very pleasant.
We went in July and it was scorching!

Yes definitely go!! we went early June and it was perfect, not overcrowded (as July/August usually are) and the beach is lovely, and the strip is not far away and the are absolutely loads of shops and bars/restaurants there. Also the old town is not far from there, there is a bus stop at the bottom of the strip which takes you to it for about 50p so you see the best of both worlds!!! If you decide to go have a great holiday xx
