I assume this is not physics involving the collection of information about matter. Instead it probably means data as it is written on a physical device like a hard drive or CD. The ones and zeros are encoded on the physical medium, as magnetic fields or electical charges or pits in reflective media.

I'm not sure what non physical data would be. It all has to be encoded somewhere.
