About 90% of the time, the blood is real. I hate to give this away, but might as well, most blood spots are caused by "bladejobs". That is the wrestlers using razor blades, usually the refs have these and will give them to the wrestlers when they are "checking on them". Sometimes, however, blood spots are caused by legitimate blows. Those being from chairs, ring bells, other weapons, or even punches. A good example of a legitimate blow would be from the Buried Alive match between the Undertaker and Mr. McMahon. The first punch Undertaker delivered caused Vince to drain his own real blood like a open faucet.
For internal bleeding, a blood packet inside the mouth is used. In some states, there are laws against real blood. In fact, there is a law like that in Kentucky, where WWE has their main training facility Ohio Valley Wrestling, OVW. Whenever someone is "busted open" there a blood packet is used.

There's been a few ways that wrestlers "bleed", whether they're real or fake.
There have been occasions in the ring where they've been hit with something hard enough or at the right angle to cut themselves open.
Other times, such as backstage (the Khali/Kane incident on the March 9 SmackDown), the camera will zoom in to show one wrestler and keep the other off scene. The wrestler off camera will either put some of the "blood" on himself or (as I believe Kane did), will make a small cut on their foreheads to cause it to bleed.
And still others (as the "original" ECW wrestler Steve Corino was known to do), would cut themselves a few hours before the show, clean up and let it heal slightly, then after a hard enough shot, the cut would open up.
As for the amount of blood, head wounds have been known to bleed more than anywhere else (short of striking a vein or artery).

The blood is real, wrestling is not fake, it is scripted, and acted out. The practice of getting a wrestler to bleed intentionally is called blading, yes blading. In the original ECW some matched would heve razors slightly out on the wrestlers taped fists in order to blade.
Wrestling is not real. But it is not fake. Droz is paralyzed waist down, Owen hart is dead.

you are right, most of the times the blood is real; the ref hands out a blade to the wrestler.. and he makes a small incision, kind of a cut you get shaving.. not painful but still enough to get the blood flowing. in some cases tough, the wrestlers have small bags of red paint sticked to their forehead witch are covered by makeup. they break on impact (generally the impact is with the cords or a corner of the ring) so that the other wrestler does not get blood on himself.

Some of the blood they use is real. A lot of time the wrestler will have something on him (like a razor blade) and he will cut himself to make it look like the other guy did it.

most of the blood is real. the wrestlers cut themselves during the match. sometimes, though, an actual hit will hit at a wrong angle and the impact will make them bleed. most of it though, is real.

My husband says they cut themselves with razor blades before the match so when they get hit the cut opens up & bleeds.

most of the blood is real. we have the unscripted book and it tells you in there that some wrestlers have scars that they can make bleed easily. or they nick them selves and make it quit bleeding. it will start bleeding again at the slightest hit.
