Make a list of what you would like... and what you think of as a 'good company'. Obviously this will be diffent for different people.
Maybe your list will say

1. pay
2. hometime
3. dedicated runs (meaning you drive the same place each time)
4. age of trucks (comfort of driving)
5. auto or gears (ease of driving)
I am sure you can think of a few more
6. Predictability of schedule (are they calling me at midnight for emergency runs)
7. Consistency of work (layoffs, empty trailers etc)
Rank your list by importance
for example. I might take a smaller amount of pay for more home time and a dedicated run so that I know where I am going to be each week and can plan my social life around it....
I might take less pay for a newer truck so that I can hear my ipod without going deaf from road noise.

GOOD LUCK!

I don't know anything about Maverick. I started with Swift and they had a really good school. I am now with JB Hunt and I love this company. People say JB does not have the runs but they run my tail off. I went to the San Antonio, Texas School with Swift and they do have a really good school. Check the differant company's web sites before you decide. Also remember Recruiters make money off of getting you into the company you go with so I am not going to say they will lie to you it is more like telling you what you want to hear. Hey good luck with whatever you decide and stay safe out here. It is a very demanding and stressful job but learn to keep that left door closed and you will make the money. Also remember this is not a job it is a life style and it can be very, very lonely.
