My dear, employees do not pay for work permits, the visa and admin fees (NOT £480, more like £80!) are paid for by the employer. This is some kind of scam. Give me the info on these people and I will make sure they are sorted out.

The cost of obtaining full British citizenship is only £263 - what does that tell you?!

A quick call to the British High Commission or UK embassy wherever you are should answer questions you may have. Explain to them that in these days of identity thefts and other forms of fraudulent behavior, you want to be sure of the correct procedure. They should also be able to check the background of the company to some degree. You're right to be hesitant. If you have your doubts, follow your gut instinct and check everything out. If the employer seems offended, you should simply explain that you want to take every step to ensure that all your documents are in order, or that you're following correct procedure.

Here's a link to help you find the embassy or commission wherever you are:

Since you applied for the job online, you're right to have questions in your mind. Try to do some background investigation yourself in the meantime.

Sounds fishy to me, particularly if the email address of the company is @yahoo.co.uk... hell, I could set one up right now.

Don't send any money, speak to the British Embassy in your home country and ask them how it works.
