Cairo always is very busy - at day or night...Like NY it's a city that never sleeps....And in hot summer months, it's even busier in the night hours, because most people in avoids to go out during the daytime when it's so extremely hot outside.

In Cairo, most shops are 24 hours a day, except for the prayer times you might find some shops closed...

Egyptian time is different from American standards. If someone in Egypt tells you they will call you in the "morning" it means they will call you at 1 pm. You will find that the stores, malls and restaurants stay open much later (2 or 3 am) and it is not uncommon to see families with babies and small children wandering the streets or eating in restaurants or in the movie theater sometimes up to 4 am. Actually being a late person myself, it is one of the things that I like best about Cairo. It is hard to find a quiet place in Cairo and a place to be alone. But if you are a morning person, you will find that between 5 am and 7 am the streets are slightly less crowded with people. So if you don't mind getting an early start and want to go out sightseeing, this is the best time to do it. The only drawback will be some businesses might not be open until 10 or 11 am.

Cairo is alive and busy from early morning until about 3am.
It never really sleeps.
Even at 3 or 4 am you can find families walking around, guys having a game of soccer in a one way street, others just sitting in a grassy spot on one of the midans.
The traffic, well, the traffic in Cairo never stops, even in Ramadan.
No one goes out to dinner until 11pm and the clubs and discos go all night. Most shops are open until 10 or 11pm,some just stay open 24/7.
The quietest time of the day is mid afternoon, particularly in summer its sleeping time!
Then everyone's up around 7pm and getting ready to hit the town.

in different sections of cairo it is different habits. but surely its the summer time that has the most people out, but i find that the most fun place and busiest in the nights r in nasr city in cairo. i just love the night life of connecting with people. and many cafes open all night also, the restaurants close very late sometimes, and i like to sleep late in the afternoon to early evening so that means the nights there r my days and fun. the best streets there r abbassalakked street and also auto strud. there r so many big big malls in this areas. especially city stars, o my god, so many things. its a nice place to live also over there. ill be looking in october for cheap flat there.

Those people seem to never sleep, all you hear all night is horns from cars, people in the streets, sheesha being smoked, music, and on and on I can go. The noise is intoxicating, all the smells mixed together are overwhelming, I got sick one night at 4:30 in the morning because of the loudness mixed with an over kill of polluting smells, and food smells. I was sitting on the balcony of my hotel watching the chaos because sleeping was not an option where I was.
