Call your baby's doctor. If it is a breastfed baby, they can go up to a week without going.

My son had this problem but that was when he was 3 months old. If your baby has not passed stool for 3 days, go to the doctor. I was concerned for my son because not a day had passed by without it. He had not passed stool for only 1 day and he seemed to be in trouble. That was when I called the doctor. I tried to press his legs towards his stomach. Gave him a hot bath. Made him squat. Nothing worked till the doc decided to give a capsule which was suppose to be put inside him and it loosened the stool and then it came out. The only way to know if your baby is in trouble is to see if he is trying to do it but cannot. They usually make faces and noises at that time. They say that the stomach will become hard if the child has any problem. But all this never happened to my son. His stomach use to be a little bit blown, that all.
Visit a doctor instead of doing things that people here tell you to.
Best of luck. Take care.

to be honest this can be rather normal. You should always talk with the dr. before giving an infant any thing but is the child has not went number two for more then four days ask the dr, a supository may be needed. Other then that the child may be too young to have prune juice. Also switching from breast to bottle can cause this even switching formula can cause constapation. Even more so if the formula is not diluted properly.
I wish you and the baby the best

Best Constipation Cures

My daughter was often constipated because of the type of formula she had to have. (Enfamil AR. It's made with rice, so it's thick. She had GERD) The Dr told us to give her 1 ounce of Gerber apple juice diluted with 2 ounces of water. It worked great. We would give her no more than 2 in a day--if it didn't happen then, it wasn't going to. Not pooping for a day of two is OK, but if it's more you should take her to the Dr. When my cousin was small she was often constipated and it turned out she had bowel problems.

Not having a bowel movement for a few days doens't mean constipation.

Constipation = Having diffuculty and pain passing hard dry stool.

What's the situation?

You don't specify whether the baby is formula fed or breast fed.

Also, what was the previous stool like and when was it?

And is he/she passing gas?

You need to talk to your pediatrician about this...but unless the child is passing hard stool...he/she is not constipated..and I would consider giving any remedies before talking to a doctor FIRST.

Give your baby a bottle with luke warm water and a couple of teaspoons of brown sugar. This will not work when your baby is older ( toddler ) but when they are small it works very well and without artificial aids.
If you are nursing , it could be something you've eaten that may not be agreeing with baby . It's good to keep track of what you eat so you will know if baby has a bad reaction.
If you don't see any result from the brown sugar ( it only takes a short while ) then I would advise that you take baby to the doctor just to be sure he/she is alright.
You didn't say if baby was still urinating .... this could be a very serious problem if he/she isn't as baby's dehydrate very quickly and you always want to make sure they are taking in enough fluids. Good luck to you and your baby ... take care : )

Four week old babies don't get constipated. They should only be drinking milk, and peeing/pooping as needed - some babies go for days with no poops. If it's been more than 5 - 7 days, you should call the nurse line...

Breast fed or formula? I can't help you on the breast fed, but if the baby is formula fed add a little bit (and by a little bit I mean a tablespoon) of apple or prune juice to the bottle. It helps loosen up the stools so the baby can go.

formula breastfed?

formula: could be disagreeing with the baby

breastfed: it could be something you ate, and if it's just that he or she hasn't had a movement for a while thats completely normal, often times babies go up to a week with out having one. also how does it vary from when your baby was regularly going. my doc prescribed -dark karo- syrup for my little girl but it was at 3 months... you ALWAYS want to check with your doctor first before administerning anything to your baby. Also you could try moving your babies legs kind of like the bicycle but up more in to the tummy area to get things moving, I was showed this at the hospital for my daughter.

Good luck

I do not know about any meds, but you can try to push your little ones legs to the stomach, and sometimes that helps them get it out! I would call the doctor though!! I hope your little one feels better soon!! Good Luck hun!
