It has purple and with what looks like crystals in it, How do I identify it?

You have to decide first wheter it is a rock or a mineral.
Did you collect it from an out crop or you picked it up from rolled downd muck etc.
Is it heavy than common rock?
try to put some dilute hydrochloric drops over it and wash it after a few seconds, do you find difference in colour.
If it is a crystal, finds its faces, streak, hardness etc. and check it with mineral identification table. See if you can pigeion hole it, if not take help of your geology teacher, thats it

Sounds like a geode. I suggest buying a book on line and or going to the local library to check it out. I studied Earth Sciences in college and it is a pretty interesting subject so don't be surprised if you find yourself immersed!
