Check the specs from Toshiba's website, but in general, most laptop hard drives are standard so you should be OK. Make sure you get one that's supported by the computer's bios.

Replacing the HDD in a laptop is not a problem, since most laptops have a 2.5" drive. You need to determine what kind of interface it has - IDE, EIDE, SATA or PATA.
The real challenge is to get your Operating System and the drivers that run the laptop into the new HDD. If you have a restore or recovery disk, this is not difficult.
I would suggest you get the opinion of a good computer technician.

Some older laptop drives were really thick, like 1/2" or more. Pretty much any one that will fit should work, though.

You can probably put in any other drive as long as you keep it a SATA or EIDE, based on what you had before.
