Spot on mate! I agree there is no such thing as a democracy in the UK or USA. The majority of people might be anti something, but our leaders will just press ahead with it anyway.

Democracy is might-makes-right majority rule. Whoever is the larger side gets to force their beliefs and their rules on the weaker side.

In a pure democracy, there isn't any elected leader making decisions. That happens in a democratic republic. But that's the danger of that system as well -- everyone gets together and the larger more-powerful side picks who gets to give orders to everyone.

As the old saying goes, it's the worst form of government around. Except for all the others.

No, there is NO democracy. For a start the voting system is all wrong, then when someone is elected they do whatever they want.... and I think this country is probably as corrupt as any other but we're more covert.

Like you say...We went to war on Iraq to bring about 'democracy' ha ha! Did the Iraqis get a say in that?

Do you live in Cuba, China,Iran, Libia, Russia, etc. When you asked a question like this, you have to live in a country that is not a Democracy. Right.? If you want a democracy to be perfect, well you will never find one. But there is nothing like a true democracy. Ask the people that live in those country that I have mention that they rather die crossing into the USA than live in their country.

Democracy starts and stops with the power of the vote. Once that process is complete...a form of dictatorship takes over, but it is sanctioned by the people who voted for it.

Definition of democracy: two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for dinner.

Andy by the way, Bliar got in with one of if not the smallest majorities ever.

The USA is a republic, not a democracy.

And So was Rome

democracy is the worst form of power for the simple reason that a single group of individuals can do what they like and pass itself off as the voice of the people. the democracy in this country is as corrupt as the republic of rome was. really what it comes down to is capitalisim. as long as the rich get rich and the working class work to achieve that for them then the goverment will always pass itself off as a democracy, when really all they are is power.

yes there democracy and it been practce in almost all the world even in your own country. But those who go into all go into it because of their selfish desires even though democracy is meant to help the people of a nation. so i think there is decomocracy only if it is been practiced well.
