I am wanting to move to England soon & would love some reccommendations for a good British etiqutte book. I know that there are quite a few people over there with titles & I would like to not be the Ugly American offending everyone I meet. Thanks!

im a brit and we are all down to earth-you'll be lucky if you meet one person with a title in a year, unless you work in politics -like me-or are taking a position in high business. In any case buy a copy of Debretts etiquette book which will cover everything to do with etiquette. And if you want a book that covers just about every fact about in Britain then buy Whitakers Almanack. Its' an absolute TOME but very useful.

I am an American in London - I've lived here for 5 years.

Probably the best advice doesn't come from a book - in my experience, the best advice is to learn how to Be Quiet. The Brits relish their moments of peace and quiet in a loud world.

People don't talk on trains or the Underground. Listening first to someone's point of view will get you so much further than spouting off what you know first. Men still open doors for women here (it took me awhile to get used to it). Patience, particularly when standing in line, or in a stopped train, is a virtue.

Welcome to England. I love it here so much I went dual-citizen. And I'll never move back to the US - the quality of life there is so poor!
