Fact from fiction, truth from diction. I am sure there are many theories on how this came to be. In large is it one of the greatest hypocrisies known to man. But lets try using logic to extrapolate truth. So-called civilized man with deep influence by the church set the bar on what was debased and evil, sinful and bad, and what was nobel, righteous, pure, etc. And since HE(civilized man)lusted seeing naked nipple(many indigenous people who normally dressed minimally paid it no mind)nipple became sexual, and sinful, thus slated for cover. Same as most parts of the women body at one point. Did you know at one point even a woman's calf was a big no no? And when the bikini came out(and they did not show nearly as much as the Rio and thong do today)it was a mini scandal. And only loose hoochie girls wore them. Society has slowly and begrudgingly gotten pass the bikini, the unwed mom, and other aspects of sexual liberation. but some things it illogically hold on to. People would make a stink if an 8 year old girl took her top off at the beach on a very hot day when from the neck to the toes the parts of her that is exposed could not be, or would be very hard to distinguished from that of her 8 year old twin brother. But because she is a girl, her chest and nipples are bad and sinful even if they appear physically no different than her twin 8 year old brother. That is one of the main reasons people pop a piston about breast-feeding in public even when it is shown to be natural for a woman and child to do, and the milk is better for them. Because the little bugger might break the liplock and a naked nipple would be exposed. And heaven help some little kids see it. they would be scared for life(can you taste the scarcasm?). America and the nipple is like a man before the mirror who once he turns away forgets what he looks like.

Strange, you can show all parts of the breast, the side, top, bottom so long as no nipple is seen. And of it is seen, so long as it is made in a way not to stand out as it does in its natural state, it is often begrudgingly ignored.

whichever organ when aroused becomes obvious all around, needs to be covered as per the dictates of modern society.
In civilised communities like ours, man has learnt to hide most of his emotions especially connected to his sexuality but the physical ones which than has to be kept under wraps by actually covering them. In fact, the Muslims even wear the burkah to hide the face displaying the various emotions.
Otherwise nothing will be left to the imagination thus creating chaotic conditions all around hitting at the very basis on which society is found--------family.

Buddy the same way the one part of Men is considered vulgar. The main reason is that it actually looking at that arouses sexual feelings in men so thats the reason it is covered but not considered vulgar.

Nipples of women are not vulgar, rather they are one of the beautiful part of women's body and hence are to be covered to protect them from bad eye and looks more pretty when are rarely seen and in private.

Actually ancient Indian women (until the advent of Moghols and British) were mostly topless or only partially covered to reduce the sensitive parts from being bruised and hurt.
Look at the way our clothes have evolved. And you will know. (exclude Northern India where weather required them to be covered from head to toe)

If you look at the cultures of the Central, West, East and Southern India: Women and Men covered themselves with just a long piece of cloth (saree and dhoti).

Breasts were considered spiritual and life giving. Indian men learnt not to look at the breasts of another women and find it lustful.

But as invaders came into the country, our beautiful women were being raped and abused and our society started to cover their women and hide them.... rest is history.

Okay, it's so 'basic' that you probably will go 'I should have known that' ... it's because babies 'suck' on women's nipples for their 'food' ... and that 'changes the way they look' ... and because MEN are 'embarrassed' they say that women's nipples are 'vulgar' and things to be 'covered' but men's nipples (that are totally useless) aren't 'vulgar' and can be left 'uncovered.'

They are not considered vulgar. As a child you had sucked on them and got nourishment so how can they be vulgar. Its the breasts which are covered as they play a part in sexually arousing a person.

They are not considered vulgar. They are private organs that stimulate the desire in a guy. Hence they need to be covered. Btw, why do guys cover their d***k?

They are not vulgar. However, it is not always appropriate for women to expose them in certain public places, because not everyone view them nor the women with respect.

Not vulgar. They are organs that respond sexually however. So women like to keep them private.
