Yes I believe from a clincal approach one needs them.
There is a chemical called serotonin in your brain and in order for your brain to manufactor it properly one needs love and touch and affection in the early years in life. If one does not get this affection etc your brain has the propensity to not produce as much of this chemical hence you will have a down and deppressed mood. Now will you literally survive? Yes but you'll be a miserable mess throughout your entire existense.....so yes hugs are IMPORTANT!

Yes, science has proven that touch is one of the most powerful things in nature. A hug gives the person a feeling of inner calm and confidence.

They dont need hugs to survive, but we like hugs, matter of fact, we love hugs. Will we die without them? no. But if you have a girlfriend and you are not giving her hugs, she will go else where to get them.
