Its finally happening, Disney has started making its first black princess movie, it will be titled The Frog Princess set in New Orleans, it will be made with classic hand-drawn animation. Its set to launch in 2009. Do u think it will be a success ?? and What do u think about it being made in tradition animation and not using the new computer style?

it's just sad too me that it took this long for Disney to make a black princess

i don't understand why they can't take a legend or real queen from Africa and make it into a movie

It was just a matter of time, in my opinion. They've had all other sorts, why not a black girl? At the moment, the closest is Jasmine!

That said, I'm not sure The Frog Princess will be one of the "Classics"... I could be wrong, I even hope I am. I'm just not certain that the princess in it will join the ranks of Ariel, Snow White, Cinderella, and the others... Only time will tell.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to answer the last part. I'm glad Disney are returning to the hand-drawn animation, although I do love computer animations, it's great that they're not using it. I want more hand-drawn animations in the future, alongside computer ones.

It could do well.
About the black princess:

Like it or not, America is still about 75% white, so making movies or TV shows with non-white characters is always risky. Many think that might be the reason Disney has been in financial trouble in the past years; because their main characters have been Greek, Indian, Samoan, etc., instead of white.
You may initially think that it's racist, but if you're black, don't you pay a little more attention to TV shows or movies with black main characters?
It's just demographics, in the same way that little girls will watch a TV show starring other little girls. You watch what's familiar and what you relate to most closely.
So, to get the most viewers, the easiest first step is to make your main characters white. That's just the way it is.

About whether or not it will be a success? Could be. Depends on how good it is and how much they market the movie.

It is cool.
But I doubt many will go to see it unless it is twice as good as Finding Nemo.
Which I highly doubt also.
