When we let you come down the pub with us to watch the football, are you just trying to wind us up when you say "It's only a game" or do you really mean it?

What a brilliant question!!

I am not English but here is a girls point of view.....

Yes she does mean it when she says it's only a game.....................

But next time she can't get tickets for Robbie Williams tell her "It's only a concert!"

And next time she can't find a size in that pair of STUNNING Jimmy Choo's tell her "It's only a pair of shoes!"

And next time there are no more handbags left on sale tell her "It's just a handbag!"

.....................THEN she will understand..............

Of course we mean it! It is only a game and we watch it for any 'fit bods' who are playing and sometimes because we don't wanna be on our own so would rather spend it with you in a 'smelly pub' with others swearing at the tv screen because their team is not doing well or the ref is an ****hole!
We cannot understand why you get so passionate about men running around a pitch with a ball especially in the pouring rain, is it because you want to be them and have their money and lifestyle?
I really don't think that many girls like watching it we just go along to try and fit in (at least not many that i know) the world cup is an exception, it brings out the patriotism in us.
Why don't you men enjoy shopping?

I think it is really meant but not to wind you up at all. If you see your boyfriend getting all upset and moody and fed up because their team aren't winning, well we don't want to see you like that, it IS only a game and doesn't really affect your life. Also we want to have a good time with you at the pub, which is real life, football is only a game ( not trying to wind you up i promise!!!) and it is a shame to let it dictate your mood for the night and spoil a night or day out.
I bet you really hate me now!! sorry!!! :)

Not only is it a game, but it's a gay, CRAP game at that. It's almost as poofy as American football and that's saying something. How anyone, male or female can say they enjoy football is beyond me, but then again, most of the population is so below me in intelligence, it's like asking flies why they keep whacking off the same bit of window and expect to somehow get a different result each time.

They really mean it. It is only a game. Think about if anything serious happened in your life; births, deaths etc - 'the game' becomes much less important suddenly.

This doesn't mean it isn't a worthwhile pastime, and emotionally involving, but at the end of the day, its trivial.

Just tell her, next time she's excited about Eastenders, or crying watching 'Ghost' or 'Titanic' for the seventeenth time, that its only a tv show/movie.

I used to say that to my ex and his head would almost explode when I said it! I never understood, and still do not, that passion that men have for football. Now Rugby, a game played well with fans that have dignity and can sit side by side with the other teams fan's and not feel the need to spit on one another and hurt each other, that is game to have passion for.

If a woman breaks her heel, you'll say "it's just a pair of boots" and a woman will say "nooooo it was the only black ankle boots I had that I could wear with my new skirt etc..etc.."

Football: Her "it's just a game", him "noooo, it was our first time in europe and the second leg was sooo important because we drew in the first one and i was suuure we would go throughhhhhh"

btw, I'm not british and i like football ;)

I really mean it.

Luckily for me though my partner doesn't like the football so whilst you are all sitting in doors on a beautiful day getting tanked up my love is out in the hills on his mountain bike getting fitter and healthier and mentally more together before coming home and whisking me out to dinner.

(By the way we are lying when we say we think your beer belly is cute)

Most of the time, we really do mean it. Girls and football normally don't mix very well. Sometimes we'll be all flirty and be, why do you want us to COME? it's just a GAME and then flick our eyelashes and everything, but yes. Most of the time, we really do mean it.
