Heartbeat only starts around 5 weeks. I would definitely not worry at all yet.
Don't stress at all. It's way too early. Here in my province in Canada, we only get one ultrasound and that is at 18 - 20 weeks pregnant. We have to wait forever to see or hear anything. I'm 100% sure that everything is fine. It's way too early to be worrying about something so minute. The embryo is still sooo tiny that it would make it almost impossible to see. And the sonogram is just sound waves bouncing. Sometimes it's hard to view. Remain calm. Here's an interesting website that shows fetal development and at what stage each thing starts. It says here fetal heartbeat not until 5 weeks or so. Each baby develops differently. Every single baby develops differently, so just take this as a general guideline. Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy. All you can do is take your prenatal vitamins and drink plenty of milk and eat well. Time to focus on taking care of yourself and your baby. Keep the stress out :)

It is not that uncommon for heartbeats not to be seen at 5 or 6 weeks- I am glad though he wants you to come back, just for precautionary reasons. I counsel at a pregnancy help clinic and we did an ultrasound on a woman at 10 weeks- and it did show then, but it took a while for the baby to be in the right position. Does your dr have an ultrasound that has the sound of the baby's heart beat? I will pray that everything is ok. 5 and 6 weeks is pretty early for an ultrasound anyway. God bless.

It's totally normal not to see a heartbeat then. I remember the nurse telling me when I got one at 6 weeks - we could see the little dot moving around, but no heartbeat, and she said "You don't see the guy walking down the street's heartbeat, but you know he's alive if he's moving." Did you see the baby move at all? I wouldn't start worrying yet, if you are not having any bleeding or cramping or anything, I'm sure everything is perfectly fine. Good luck with the pregnancy! Congratulations!

this is perfectly normal! the heartbeat does not show up on a sonogram until the fetus is at LEAST nine weeks old. I dont know why the doctor is scaring you like this. there is no reason to be alarmed! after nine weeks, if he still cannot see it, then i would worry, but until then, you are fine. just relax, take a deep breath and dont stress over this. its not a big deal, i promise. the more stressed out you are, the worse it is for the baby. Good Luck Hun!

It is not uncommon to not see the heartbeat at this time. With some people they don't see it until 12 weeks and have a healthy baby.
Everything will be fine...good luck.

I don't have any experience with this but I just wanted to say good luck and I hope everything turns out fine. However I did read on a site that it may not be detected until 61/2- 7 weeks.

That happened with all of my children and I'm pregnant with number 3. The doctor might be off on your due date. I know with all of my children, I skipped a period before I got pregnant, so when I thought I was 6 weeks, I was really like 2 or 3 weeks. I'm sure everything will be okay.
