Then have fun having mice forever. Because the most effective tools you have are poison and cats.

Get a cat and don't feed it. The mice will move out in days.

I see you are already rejecting pretty much all the available options.

The only thing left to do is try a different kind of trap, change the locations of the traps, and/or try a more attractive bait. Something calorie rich, yet sticky and hard to remove from the trap's trigger . Try peanut butter, or gumdrops. The mice will get so excited by the discovery they will forget to be cautious.

Also, make sure there is No easier food option laying around. The mice will skip your trap if they know you've got a box of old pizza crusts laying about.

We used to have mice but when we got a cat it was almost like all the rats && mice dissapeared. I guess you could just borrow a cat from a friend for a while, or something. I dont really know any other way.

The first thing you have to do is locate the rodent's entry site into your home. If this isn't sealed, you'll have mice forever, no matter what you do.
I finally ended a 20 year long invasion in my home by sealing up cracks in the foundation blocks. (Don't be fooled, they can squeeze through the narrowest of cracks, some no more than 1/2 an inch wide.)

This may sound silly but can you borrow a cat from a friend or relative? Seriously, a cat is your best weapon for unwanted rodents. I agree with you about the poison, but I guess my second choice would be to call an exterminator and see what they say, although they will probably use poison too.

Good luck!

try the sticky traps if that doesn't work I don't know what to tell you cause the only other ways I can think of are poison and a cat

Glue traps are the best method to trap rats and mice.
