Why do people tend to feel more comfortable living among their own racial groups? We tend to hear about diversity at work, and we respect it to a certain degree. When we go home we want to be among our own culture, marry people from our culture, have friends within the same group. This is the beginning of the 21st century and it still shocks me to see prejudice and fear in so many people. Why do you think we are not more open to other groups outside of the workplace?

i can only answer from a white person's perspective on the issue, since i'm white, but i tend to look for the nicest neighborhoods that i can afford. I don't ask "how many black people live here?" I look at how nice the neighborhood is, how nice the schools are, is there shopping/highways nearby? Typically, these nicer areas will be mostly white and asian dominated, however there are also blacks and hispanics...just in smaller numbers. What do you want me to do, move into the ghetto to experience diversity? like any american, i'm going to seek out the nicest area to live in that i can afford. that is not unusual for americans. that is why i work hard, to live in a nice place and create a nice life.

I think you just answered your own question. Racial division is caused by different cultures. People of different races are different in more ways than just the color of their skin.
This has been proven all through history.
