Well, there are a couple of ways.

The easiest would be to simply buy a wireless printer. To do this you would need to have a wireless router installed.

You could also set up a wirless network and set up file and print sharing so that you could send the print job from one computer, to the printer that is connected to another printer. But the printer would still need to be connected to one computer.

Your choices include the following:

1) If you have a wireless and not-wireless network in your house (if your DSL router has wifi and ethernet) you can do any of:
a) Buy an ethernet printer adapter (Dlink and HP both make them... HP's is called 'jetdirect external' and hook your PC up to it.
b) Hook your printer to a PC that is on the ethernet and offer it as a shared printer to the network
c) Either of the above but using a wifi connection instead.

2) If you want to use the printer on your laptop just cable it in direct to your laptop (I know it's not really wireless...)

3) Use infrared - if your printer is equipped with an infra red thingy that matches your laptop.

Step-by-step will depend what route you follow... but the cheapest if you've got a suitable desktop PC is :
Connect the printer to the desktop and install suitable drivers so it can print.
Connect the PC to the ethernet of your router
Make sure you've got the necessary printer sharing bits of your version of Windows installed
Create a network share for the printer.
Install a new printer on your laptop as a network device, using the host name and share name of the printer and it's PC.
Install the drivers on your laptop for the PC
Print a test page.

All you need to print wirelessly is to have a wireless print server. This device looks like a router but has usually four USB ports to plug in the printer(s). The printer(s) can range from basic to multi-function. When you purchase a print server, like the one from D-Link that utilizes Wireless G networks and costs around $49, you should just follow the steps in the instructions on how to install it onto the network. You may need the installation CD for the printer.
