I recently noticed that the water in my wash machine tub is discolored (light reddish brown). I suspect that the tub may have rust. Is there a way to remove rust? Any other possibilities for the discolored water? Thanks!

it could just be that the iron content of your water is up during the winter months. have you removed the hoses and cleaned out the screens in the fill valve? this should be done occasionally, to remove any sediment, or they may need to be replaced. you can find hose washers at an appliance parts store that have screens built into them and install these in the hoses up by your shut off valves to make cleaning them easier in the future. if when you pull out the screens you see rust, its from the water, not your tub. good luck, hope this fixes it for ya.

Try a product called "Iron Out" in your wash. If it is the iron content of the water this will help.

Wouldn't think so. Think you'll have to buy a new one. Take the drum out and use it as a planter in your garden, I've got grass in mine.
